If you want guaranteed sights of mountain gorillas in an utterly wild setting, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is the place to be. Stretching over 321km2 on the edge of the river valley, this vast tropical forest is home to the biggest mountain gorilla population on the planet. In all, some 459 gorillas find refuge here together with large packs of chimpanzees and over 350 bird species.
After an early breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel/Airport ahead of your road trip to Bwindi, as found in the western part of Uganda. This sightseeing journey will last roughly nine hours en-route some of the most scenic landscapes in East Africa. Brace yourself for astonishing views of rolling hills, scenic tea plantations, typical Ugandan villages, meandering freshwater lakes, cultural museums and the Equator site. In an effort to make the trip less exhausting, there will be stopovers at points where you can refresh yourself. Lunch will be at the restaurant of Igongo, a fully-fledged cultural destination with a museum. It specializes in Ugandan dishes that tickle the taste buds.
Upon arrival, you will be checked into an eco-friendly lodge of your choice. There is something special for everyone here, no matter their budget.
Having been successfully gazzated over two decades back, Bwindi is the permanent home of 18 habituated gorilla families, each of which is fully comprised of members of the different age brackets from infants to adults that have been under the sun for over 40 years. In the wet season, they prefer to dwell in the bamboo zone of the highland. But as the dry season takes hold, they congregate back in the forest zone in their groups. Although it is the most visited gorilla destination in the world, it is well worth going to see as it is not crowded. This is partly thanks to the limit of each group to a maximum of eight tourists. It is named after a swamp system where the jungle blends seamlessly with the papyrus.
In the afternoon, you will have a relaxing boat cruise on Lake Mulehe or visit to one of the native tribes if you are not very exhausted.
Return to lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Having a delightful brunch that is prepared with a Ugandan touch, you will set off for Kampala en-route Lake Bunyonyi. Here, you will have a sightseeing tour of its stunning 29 islands (boat cruise).
Safari back to Kampala with a stopover at one of the souvenour shops where you can buy hand-made crafts for your loved ones.
